About 3:55 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 1980, Jackie Leroy Hendricks ("Jack"), age 36, was driving his 1972 Ford Torino, unaccompanied, westbound on an unpaved county road in Vernon County, some 3 to 3½ miles east of Nevada. Ahead of Jack's Torino, the road intersected a railroad track at a "grade crossing." The track, owned by Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad Company ("M-K-T"), ran generally from southwest to northeast, and crossed the road obliquely...
