On July 2, 1980, the body of Elizabeth C. was found on the roof of an apartment building in Roxbury. She had been stabbed eight times, had both jaws broken and had abrasions on her face consistent with the imprint of a boot. The defendant and his nephew, Thomas, were indicted for first degree murder. At hearings on motions to suppress and during trial each defendant attempted to show that the other was the culprit.
