William L. Wise, Jr. and Thelma Allen Wise brought this suit on behalf of their minor grandson, William Leon Wise, III, for the wrongful death of his mother, Jo Ann Wise. The trial court entered a judgment in favor of the plaintiff and against the State of Louisiana, Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), for $81,165.
