Duane and Eleanor Kelson (the Kelsons) appeal from the district court's dismissal of their complaint alleging a violation of 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and a pendent state cause of action for negligence arising out of the suicide of their fourteen year-old son, Brian Kelson. This appeal requires us to resolve the narrow question whether parents possess a constitutionally protected liberty interest in the companionship and society of their child...
