Arline Soderbeck brought this suit under section 1 of the Civil Rights Act of 1871, now 42 U.S.C. § 1983, against Robert Kellberg (the Sheriff of Burnett County, Wisconsin), the three members of the county's Law Enforcement Committee, and the county itself. She alleges that she was fired from her job in the sheriff's office in violation of her rights under the First Amendment, made applicable to state action by the Fourteenth Amendment...
