After a jury-waived trial, the defendant Hamm was convicted on various indictments charging assault with intent to rape, assault with intent to murder, mayhem, and armed robbery. His convictions were affirmed, see Commonwealth v. Hamm, 357 Mass. 354, cert. denied, 400 U.S. 908 (1970), and some ten years later he filed the instant motion for a new trial, which raised four claims: (1) that he had not received...
