On August 14, 1980, William C. Smith a/k/a William Hart, was charged by a bill of information for the offense of aggravated battery (Louisiana Revised Statute 14:34). Subsequently, on July 18, 1983, defendant entered a plea of guilty to a charge of second-degree battery (Louisiana Revised Statute 14:34.1). On September 21, 1983, defendant was sentenced to serve five years to run consecutively with a life imprisonment sentence for second-degree murder...
