The defendant, James Dennis Sanford, a/k/a James Kennedy, was charged by bill of information with the crime of armed robbery, in violation of La.R.S. 14:64. He pleaded not guilty, and, on September 12-15, 1983, he was tried before a twelve person jury and was found guilty. Pursuant to the habitual offender statute (La. R.S. 15:529.1), Sanford was sentenced to serve 99 years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections without benefit...
