Appellants John Petracelli and Stephen A. Pearson were convicted of violating the federal firearms statutes, 26 U.S.C. §§ 5861(d), (i). Petracelli was charged with one count of possessing an unregistered silencer and with one count of possessing a silencer not identified by a serial number.
