The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) brought this action under 42 U.S.C. §§ 1983, 1988 and the First and Fourteenth Amendments against the City of Golden, Colorado. ACORN sought an injunction against enforcement of the City of Golden's ordinance which prohibited door-to-door canvassing without first obtaining an exemption.
