The defendant was convicted of armed robbery on the basis of his involvement as a lookout while his accomplice, Michael Biggs, actually perpetrated the robbery of a convenience store clerk. Prior to trial, Biggs pled guilty to robbery with a firearm and the state agreed to recommend a sentence of a maximum of ten years and a minimum of three years in exchange for Biggs' testifying for the state at Johnson's trial.
