Michael J. Geiger, an army physician, brought this action against the United States, the Department of the Army, and Colonel Richard B. Stuart, seeking an injunction and a writ of habeas corpus releasing him from future military obligations. Pending a hearing, the district court issued a temporary restraining order barring Geiger's assignment to active duty.
