Defendant Johnny Narcisse was arrested on March 18, 1979 for the March 17, 1979 murder of Elby Jolivette. He was subsequently indicted by the Lafayette Parish grand jury for first degree murder, in violation of R.S. 14:30. Two years later, on May 26 through May 29, 1981, defendant was tried and a unanimous jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged. After the sentencing phase of the bifurcated trial, the jury unanimously recommended the death...
