The plaintiff and the defendant, who had been married for more than twenty-three years, were granted a dissolution of marriage on February 19, 1981, on the ground of irretrievable breakdown. The major marital assets at that time consisted of the family home in Wethersfield, a greenhouse on the Berlin Turnpike and a machine shop in New Britain. The trial referee assigned the residence to the plaintiff, gave the greenhouse and the machine shop to the defendant...
