Defendant was charged in district court with fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, Minn.Stat. § 609.487, subd. 3 (1982), a gross misdemeanor. Defendant moved at the omnibus hearing to suppress identification evidence and a statement he made to the police on the ground that the evidence was the fruit of what he argued was an illegal arrest.
