These consolidated cases arose from two similar but separate incidents. Plaintiffs sued defendants praying for judgment in solido. A bifurcated trial was conducted, wherein the case against defendant-appellant, New Orleans Public Service, Inc., was tried by a jury and the case against defendant-appellant, the City of New Orleans, was tried by the judge.1 See La.R.S. 13:5105.
