Clayton J. Fontenot (plaintiff), after being involved in an automobile accident, brought this action to recover damages under the terms of an automobile insurance policy issued him by defendant, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. In addition, plaintiff sought to recover the statutory penalties and attorney's fees. Defendant denied coverage, asserting that the policy had been cancelled for non-payment of the premium prior to the date of plaintiff...
