WIDENER, Circuit Judge:

This appeal arises from the grant of a writ of habeas corpus to Johnnie Ray Grimsley, a state prisoner in Virginia, petitioner below and appellee here. We reverse.

In 1979, Grimsley was on state probation following 1973 convictions for grand larceny in Page and Rockingham Counties, Virginia. In September of that year, deputies from Page County, Virginia, accompanied by Grimsley's probation...
