Plaintiffs represent a class of female General Motors employees, all members of the UAW, who were employed at various locations throughout Michigan during the period from November 20, 1970, to March 31, 1977. Their employment was at all times governed by the terms of a collective-bargaining agreement which included provisions for various insurance benefits.
