This is a defamation suit. Plaintiff is Alton "Tan" Romero, a deputy sheriff of Vermilion Parish. Defendant, Abbeville Broadcasting Service, Inc., is the owner of a radio station. The trial court held the plaintiff was a public figure and/or public official, and therefore the defendant must have been guilty of "actual malice."
