Between 11:30 p. m. and midnight on December 9, 1975, defendant Bobby Haywood was operating a tractor-trailer unit west on U. S. Highway 60 intending to enter and cross Bridge J-92. The bridge spans the St. Francis River near Fisk, Missouri. The highway is two-laned, one for eastbound and one for westbound traffic.
