OPINION

FEDERICI, Justice.

This is an appeal from the Santa Fe County District Court's denial of appellants' Michael Colby (Colby) and William Stephens (Stephens) motion for postconviction relief. Both defendants were incarcerated as inmates at the State Penitentiary at Santa Fe, when the alleged crime in this case occurred. Colby and Stephens were convicted of the first-degree baseball bat-beating death of a fellow inmate, Bert Duane Stevens (Stevens)....
