LEMMON, Justice.

The principal issue in this appeal is whether defendant's statement to a police officer regarding his addiction to codeine was admissible to prove that he knowingly obtained a controlled substance (an amberyl expectorant containing codeine) by using a forged prescription. See R.S. 40:971 B(1)(b). A related issue is whether the state's evidence was sufficient to support the jury's finding that defendant had knowledge of the forged nature of the prescription...
