The plaintiffs' decedent, an air force captain, was killed on February 13, 1970, when his aircraft crashed in Idaho. On January 5, 1978, almost eight years later, Captain Cox's widow and his three minor children brought this wrongful death action in a Texas federal district court against McDonnell-Douglas Corporation and its affiliated companies ("McDonnell-Douglas"), which designed and manufactured the aircraft.
