Plaintiff, Valerie Johnson, was born on March 27, 1959. On May 28, 1974, plaintiff, who was then 15 years old, was admitted to Children's Hospital for treatment in connection with a congenital heart condition. During plaintiff's treatment, an i.v. (intravenous needle) in plaintiff's right arm became dislodged, causing the medication to infiltrate the dorsum of plaintiff's right hand.
