Each appellant was charged by complaint and information as follows, omitting the formal introductory and concluding portions of the charging instruments:

[name of appellant] ... on or about the 15th day of December A.D., 1976 in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, did unlawfully then and there with intent to further gambling, knowingly possess certain gambling paraphernalia, to wit: bingo cards ...
