We granted leave to appeal to consider whether an insurer is liable for prejudgment interest pursuant to the prejudgment interest statute, MCL 600.6013; MSA 27A.6013, on that portion of a judgment representing the policy limits of the insurer. In so doing, we are asked to consider whether an insurer can be obligated by statute to pay as interest sums of money over and above the contractual limitations...
