Sidney J. Simms was charged by bill of information with possession of heroin in violation of La.R.S. 40:966. After trial by jury, he was found guilty. After conviction, but prior to sentencing, the district attorney filed an information accusing defendant of a previous felony conviction pursuant to La.R.S. 15:529.1 (Habitual Offender Law).
