Upon indictments dated in June, 1978, the defendants Mamie Ann Best and her son John R. McCown stood trial for fourteen days in April-May, 1979, and were found guilty by a Middlesex County jury of the murder in the first degree on October 25, 1974, of Fayne Adams, husband of Best and stepfather of McCown.
