In December of 1977 defendant pleaded guilty to the crime of arson in the third degree and was sentenced to five years' probation. On May 15, 1979 defendant was convicted of two counts of petit larceny upon a guilty plea. A probation violation hearing was subsequently held at which the only proof offered was a certified copy of the certificate of conviction for petit larceny.
