Gerald Laikola was killed in an industrial accident. At the time of his death, he was ceremoniously married to Laurel Laikola, who was awarded the widow's share of the compensation award. Jane Laikola contests the award to Laurel Laikola on the grounds that she was the common-law wife of Gerald, that their common-law marriage was valid under the law of Minnesota, and that the subsequent ceremonial marriage by Gerald to Laurel in Minnesota was bigamous...
