Defendant Eldridge Cleaver was charged, in an indictment returned by the Alameda County Grand Jury in 1968, with three counts of attempted murder (Pen. Code, § 187), and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon upon police officers (id., § 245, subd. (b)).
