The parties to this appeal were divorced as a result of a decree entered by the Circuit Court of Montgomery County on April 10,1978. Under the terms of the decree the husband (appellant-cross-appellee, Charles M. Smith, III) was ordered to pay his former wife (appellee-cross-appellant, Gene Langham Smith) $1,500 a month in periodic alimony.
