Acting under the provisions of LSA-R. S. 48:441-460, the State of Louisiana, through the Department of Highways, instituted this suit expropriating, for highway purposes, certain property owned by the defendants. At the time suit was filed the Department deposited $2,026 in the registry of court as its estimate of just compensation for the property expropriated.
