This litigation results from a collision between two ships, the R/V Fathom II ("Fathom") and the M/T Gavrion ("Gavrion"), early in the morning of October 16, 1972, in the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the St. Johns River at Jacksonville, Florida.
