The suit in the District Court was brought under the Civil Rights Act, for damages against a State Highway Patrolman, the Sheriff of Warren County, Tennessee, and his Deputy. 28 U.S.C. § 1343 and 42 U.S.C. § 1983. The plaintiff recovered judgment upon the verdict of the jury for compensatory damages in the amount of $10,000. The defendants have appealed, asserting that the verdict was excessive...
