Jimmie Lee Wilkes, defendant, was found guilty of the murder of Thomas Nelson (in the Circuit Court of Will County). Defendant waived trial by jury and, as a result of a bench trial, he was sentenced to the penitentiary for a term of not less than 35 nor more than 50 years.
