WRIGHT, C.J.

Petitioner was convicted by a jury in 1964 of selling heroin. (Health & Saf. Code, § 11501.) The information also alleged that he had suffered a 1953 felony conviction for possession of marijuana.1 (Health & Saf. Code, § 11530.) At the time of arraignment for plea, petitioner pleaded not guilty to the substantive offense, but admitted the prior felony conviction....
