GOLDBERG, Circuit Judge:
Things were anything but tranquil on July 28, 1966, at Bill's Highway 80 Truckstop in Tallulah, Louisiana. The events of that evening grew out of the civil rights activities of appellant Zelma C. Wyche. Wyche, a Negro, was president of the Madison Parish Voters' League, an organization devoted to securing equal rights for Negroes.
