Appellants, students of East Tennessee State University, were suspended by the University's Discipline Committee after a hearing on charges of distributing on the campus "material of a false, seditious and inflammatory nature." This material was calculated to cause a disturbance and disruption of school activities and to bring about ridicule of and contempt for the school authorities.
