This action in damages results from the fact that when, on January 2, 1962, an abdominal operation was performed on Mrs. Monty Tyler Grant, a small 4 × 4 inch gauze sponge was accidentally left in her abdomen when the incision was sutured. When pain and suffering later developed an X-ray examination disclosed this fact and, on August 31, 1962, the same surgeon who had performed the first operation surgically...
