The petitioner, John Mickelson, served as a duly elected member of the Arizona Senate for eight years. He left the Senate upon the expiration of his last term on 5 January 1967.

Article 4, Part 2, Section 1, Subsection 2(a) of the Arizona Constitution, A.R.S., fixes the salary of members of the Arizona Legislature, both the House and Senate, at $1800 for each regular Legislative session, plus $20 a day for not to exceed 20 days for each special...
