The petitioner Miller, assigned to assist a defendant charged with four misdemeanor counts, was late in appearing at a session of the municipal court. He was cited for a direct contempt; tried and adjudged guilty. He applied for a writ of habeas corpus, but before one was issued it turned out that the only punishment imposed was a fine, two hundred dollars. With the superior court's blessing his petition was changed...
