Defendant in this cause, Orlen Sims, was indicted for the murder of his wife, Janice Sims, whose death occurred on August 28, 1963. Defendant signed a written plea of guilty to the offense charged, and was sentenced to the Illinois State Penitentiary for a term of not less than 45 years nor more than 90 years. A writ of error was issued by the Supreme Court of this State for review of the judgment of conviction and the cause was thereafter transferred...
