Defendant was employed by a trucking firm as a driver of tractor-trailers. At about 1:30 A.M., on a Monday, September 16, 1957, he was assigned by the firm's dispatcher to drive such a vehicle, containing a load of meat, from Manhattan to a certain consignee in Jamaica, Queens.
