Defendant appeals from a $22,000 judgment in favor of plaintiff for the wrongful death of her decedent.

For a sewer construction project, defendant caused excavations to be made in its streets. The accident involved occurred at the intersection of Putnam boulevard and Fourth avenue. Putnam is a divided street with 2 lanes, 22 feet in width, for southbound traffic, separated, by an island 10 feet wide, from 2 similar lanes for northbound traffic...
