March 14, 1953, plaintiff (respondent) as buyer entered into a contract with defendant (appellant) as seller. The provisions of the contract, material here, are as follows:

"The Buyer agrees to purchase and the Seller agrees to sell and deliver unto the Buyer the following described farm produce under the terms, covenants and conditions hereinafter set out. "Commodity. Potatoes. "Quantity. 60 acres.
