On March 9, 1954, James Willie Morgan was indicted for the murder of Eugene Talmadge Bryant by shooting him with a pistol. When the case came on for trial on May 3, 1954, and before arraignment, the defendant filed a written motion for a change of venue, which on oral motion of the solicitor-general was dismissed.
