Samuel Bowens, alias Sammie Adkins, was convicted of the murder of Janie Lee Dunbar, without a recommendation of mercy. The deceased was beaten to death by the defendant with a slab of wood while she was in bed in her home. The defendant, who had been living with the deceased, admitted in his statement that he killed her.
