In December, 1944, appellant was convicted of robbery in the District of Columbia and was sentenced to confinement in the penitentiary. Thereafter he was found to be of unsound mind and committed to St. Elizabeth's Hospital. In the latter part of January, 1946, he applied to the United States District Court for a writ of habeas corpus. The writ issued, counsel was appointed to represent petitioner (appellant) and a hearing had before Judge Bailey April...
